ZOOM GUITAR EFFECTS PEDALS

ZOOM GUITAR EFFECTS PEDALS
What guitar and amp and effects pedal would give me the tone of these 2 guitars(youtube vid)?

I have been using a cheap £100 guitar, £15 amp and a zoom G1X effect pedal for a few years and now want to buy a really good guitar.

I have no experience with any good amps or guitars. My spending limit is around £1000(can go over). If you recommend something, please add a rough price.

If I can’t get the sound of both, either tone would still do.

Which amp would be best? Head and cabinet or combo? How much more expensive is one over the other. Is the extra cost worth it?
I don’t need a loud amp, but might need to one day.

Is it possible to get such a nice tone out of a guitar and amp for only £1000.
I would prefer to not buy used as it might have not been looked after properly. I suppose it is an option though.

If you like the guitarist, he was in a band called Siam Shade.
Once again, Please add a price for your suggestion.

I can tell you what might approximate the sound to my ears, but the best option would be for you to go to a music store and try various guitars and amps for yourself.

That said, the guitar is the first video is a Paul Reed Smith and the second is a Tom Anderson. While I can’t specify a particular model, I’m pretty sure the amp is a Mesa Boogie (the Youtube videos don’t give a clear view that I could see). It’s also important to note that while you don’t see him using effects during the performance, the guitar has had effects added to it later (reverb, delay, compression, etc). I do think that the majority of the TONE is guitar and amp, but I just wanted to point out that the tone may have been slightly altered as well.

Now… to get that sound for around 1000 pounds? That’s a bit more difficult. Everything he used (guitars and amp) are individually over that price tag, so we’ll have to approximate. Further, I don’t know where you are, so local prices are always hard to pinpoint. I’ve always been of the “your amp is your tone” camp, so I’d advise spending most of your money there- a cheap guitar can sound good through a good amp, but a good guitar will still sound cheap through a cheap amp.

Two ways to go here, depending on the prices of things available. You could go with a mid-low range tube amp or you could hit a mid-high range modeling amp, either of which is a good option. I should mention that nothing sounds like a Mesa Boogie BUT a Mesa Boogie, but you can get an excellent lead tone without it- it just won’t be EXACTLY the “Mesa Boogie” tone. In the tube category, you might check out this Marshall combo: http://www.musicstreet.co.uk/marshall-vintage-modern-2266c-p-2583.html?osCsid=amvoupkm7609n0c3tt6p2psp84 … For a modeling amp, look up Line 6 and see if there’s something you like. Youtube is a good reference, but your best bet is to get into a store and play things yourself.

Guitar-wise, PRS makes a SE series which might fit your needs and budget well. You can check them out on that musicstreet.co.uk site I posted before. For an analog to the Tom Anderson, you might have to stick with a Fender Stratocaster or a G&L. An Ibanez might also be to your liking. I should mention, however, that I think he was using the humbucker (bridge pickup) in the Anderson, so the PRS SE might be your best overall bet.
