GIBSON GUITARS CHEAP
How are Epiphone guitars different from Gibson guitars?
In terms of quality. I know that Epiphone makes cheaper guitars. Please be specific.
Gibson is the parent company for both. While the Epi’s started out being perceived as the inferior younger brother, a lot of artists were using them for recording and gigging (that’s why there’s a John Lennon signature series, among others). Most Epi’s are made overseas and mostly by machine production methods, but CNC techniques have made the consistency and quality right up there with the luthier’s art. The quality is essentially the same between both brands; you can even find American-made Gibsons that aren’t up to par with some Epiphones (really). The biggest difference is the name brand recognition between the two. Now, you CAN find cheesy Epi’s because they are meant to be affordable to the guy in the street. You won’t find a Gibson under $500. That being said, there are Epi’s made in the U.S. and their prices reflect it. If an Epiphone looked and felt the way I would want a guitar to feel, I would have it set up by a good tech and wouldn’t notice any difference between it and it’s much more expensive big brother. The setup is the key here, and is to ANY guitar.
