Is it a bad idea to ’self-teach’ myself how to play the bass guitar?

i currently am taking piano lessons at my high-school (at lunch time once a week) but i’ve always had a thing for the bass guitar but i dont have the time to have as much of a commitment to bass as i do to piano. So i figure if i just kinda teach myself through books and videos and my uncle (he plays bass) on a real casual basis, that would avoid this problem…yes? Please let me know what you think.

i sorta taught myself how to play the guitar. You can teach yourself a lot of the stuff but if you wanted to get better you could always take lessons when you have extra time.
