SLIDE GUITAR TUNINGS CHORD

Ukulele help please?
I’ve just received a ukulele as a birthday gift (whicj I am very pleased with). What I need help with is the tuning. I went for A,D,F#,B as this was what I’d found by a quick search on the net and have started learning chords in this key. However the more I research this the more I am finding that a lot of the more famous players seem to favour G,C,E,A. I appreciate that this is the same relative tuning, just in a different key, but should I swap to G etc or stick with A as I’ve started with this? I suppose what I really want to know is if one of these is regarded as a ’standard’ tuning which most players would use?
I am quite an accomplished guitar player and can play many songs in the same key with or without capo, and have played slide in different tunings also.
Any help gratefully received. Oh, and I do know how sad I am before any idiots decide they need to let me know!
The tenor ukulele tuning is low G, middle C, E, A. Soprano ukulele tuning is a full step higher: A, D, F#, B. Standard tuning is like tenor ukulele except the G is the one above middle C, the famous “My Dog Has Fleas” tuning. A lot of people like it tuned up to soprano because it rings better, cuts through the voice better, or because they sing tenor and a soprano accompaniment sounds better. But be careful, as a standard ukulele tuned up to soprano can cause a lot of strain on the neck that a standard uke wasn’t designed for.
