PEAVEY GUITAR BASS AMPS

Best amps for Pedal Steel Guitar?
Hi,
Thanks for your help with pedals! What amps do you recommend for Pedal Steel Guitar? Some folks say avoid the Fenders, some say get a Bass Man, some say Evans, some say Peaveys.
I just started playing PSG but have played guitar and bass for over 20 years. I’m thinking about getting an amp with a 15″ speaker.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Roger
Again, your best resource for all things PSG is the steel guitar forum at:

If you play the guitar then you already know the answer: it depends on how much you want to spend. At the lower end the Peavy Nashville 112 is billed as a “practice or intimate performance” amp, but that works pretty well in anything but humongous stadiums. 80 watts, 12″ speaker, light weight. a very good beginner’s choice at 579 USD.
Or you could allways fork out 875 USD for Brad Sarno’s revelation tube preamp. Zero compromises there, but you still need the power amp, a speaker cab, and probably a nice FX box.
In the middle of the spectrum is Fender’s Steel King amp, at 699 USD not a bad choice for a 200 watt amp with a 15″ speaker.
Other options for NEW gear would be Walker’s Stereo Steel amp, or the Evans se200.
The used market is filled with juicy options for steel guitarrists, like silver or black faced fender twins, or the very rare randall steelman amp, or webb amps, the peavy vegas, etc…
I guess it depends on what type of music you want to play on your steel. If your looking for the classic nashville country tone then you need a peavey nashville amp. If you’re not a traditionalist, then you could probably get by with any other option.
I currently play my steel through a carvin sx-100 amp, decidedly NOT intended for use with a steel guitar. But the clean channel is clean enough for me while I save up for something better.
