What kind of strings should I buy for my electric guitar?
I play everything from heavy metal in drop C to john mayer. When I go to the local guitar store I have no idea what kind of strings I need.

they are all about the same! once upon a time when strings were wound by hand, there was a huge difference in brands.
But now all companies use the same computerized winding machines and they all get there wire from the same sources.
I go through phases of different brands but the most consistent have been the big 4; Ernie Ball, G.H.S., D’addario, and Dean Markley. The absolute best strings that I have ever used (and I have used them all!) are the MAXIMA Gold strings that are actually coated with a coat of pure 24k gold. They are immune to rust and corrosion, last much longer and have a fantastic sound. They are fairly hard to come by and are exspensive as well!
