What is the best type/brand of paint to use on painting an electric guitar?
I am repainting an ibanez Rg 550 it has a solid basswood body and bolt on neck. I have taken off all the parts and i have sanded down the entire body of the guitar to its original paint job with a palm sander using 300 grit sandpaper. I need to repaint the body to where it looks like i custom ordered it . I need to know what brands and types and how much paint i will need to get and the steps that would be needed in order to paint my guitar to factory standards.
If you want a true custom paint job, you need to contact an auto body shop. They have some serious paints that will last after being applied. they also have the proper place for sealing them. Or you could poly the body with clear and have a one of a kind. The poly you can get at Lowes. It takes time and patience to do it correctly and several coats.
