With so many resources available, it is important that you know what to look for when searching for a good quality and effective website.
First and foremost, you need to determine how user friendly the site is. It must be laid out in a way that is easy to navigate and that makes it easy to find what you are looking for. No matter how good the content, a website will do you no good if it is difficult to navigate and find what you need.
Once you have determined that a website has a good layout, you then need to pay attention to the content and structure of their lessons. This is the most important aspect of a good website and below are some things you should consider.
1.) If you are a complete beginner, you need to make sure that they provide a “getting started” or “beginner basics” section. This should take you step by step through some of the initial concepts and set up a good basic structure to get started learning guitar.
2.) If your are an intermediate or advanced guitar player, you need to make sure that the site you are considering will meet your needs. Some sites are set up with only the beginner in mind while others will offer lessons to all skill levels.

3.) Make sure that they have lessons geared toward the style of music you primarily want to play. It is a plus if a website offer lessons in many different styles because you always have content available if you decide to expand from your primary style.
4.) While many good websites utilize only one instructor, it can be beneficial to learn at a site that has multiple instructors teaching multiple styles. Everyone teaches guitar in different ways and if a website has multiple instructors, it will allow you to find the best one that works for you without having to pay to go to another site.
5.) A good site will offer both written and video lessons. It will also have numerous tools to help you learn such as a jam center, metronome and reference tuner.
6.) Make sure that the site adds new content on a regular basis and it is advisable to avoid “build it and run” websites (I.E. websites that are built and then never attended to or updated).
There is a lot to consider when finding the right online guitar lesson but hopefully the prior information will make this task somewhat easier. To get started in the right direction you can also look for others who have positively reviewed certain sites.
