GUITAR RERANCH PAINT

What kind of paint should I use on my self-built guitar.?
I recently competed my first entirely hand built guitar and would like to paint it. I have some colors in mind and would like to avoid going to suppliers like Guitar ReRanch or Stewart MacDonald. I know that I need to avoid regular spray paint because it will not dry hard enough or give me the desired finish. I do have basic spray equipment (paint gun, compressor) so canned paint is an option. I previously had this posted under the music category with no takers, I’m hoping for a response here.
What you need is a good enamel. Most guitars have the paint baked on. The other way to go would be a good polyurethane based stain and sealer. The same stuff they use on hardwood floors. It will take several coats with plenty of drying time in between. I use it on my custom made jewlry boxes.
