Can I tune a bass guitar to a standard 6-string?
So, I am going to play a bass guitar for the first time. I already play guitar and I am very good at it. When tuning the Bass, should I tune it TO the normal guitar, or an octave lower. In other words, should I make the bass guitar sound the same as the normal guitar, or different. Please, no opinions. I am tuning standardly. Thank-you.
I mean, if I am tuning the bass guitar to a standard guitar, should I pluck the top 4 strings of the normal guitar, and tune the bass guitar so the top 4 strings are the same, or should I pluck the top 4 of the 6 string, then tune the BASS an octave LOWER?

If you have a 4 string bass, tune it E,A,D,G one octave lower than the 6 string. With standard gauge strings I’d be surprised if you could tune them an octave higher without damaging the strings or tuning gear on your bass.
My main bass is a 5 string (with a low B) although I do have a 4 string as well. I used to own a six string bass as well and had this set up different ways at different times – sometimes B,E,A,D,G,[C or B] and sometimes E,A,D,G,B,E as a six string only all one octave lower.
