my ps2 is making scratching noises when i play guitar hero world tour. why does this happen? is it fixable?
my ps2 is making scratching noises when i play guitar hero world tour. why does this happen? can this problem be fixed?
Details
1 – the bottom of the gutar hero world tour disc has a slightly darker color than my other games.
2 – my ps2 plays all of my other games without a problem like DDR, kingdom hearts, etc.
3 – the sounds occur during the loading screen where the guitar hero logo shows up
4 – there is a little loading bar during the loading screen that fills and then stops at the end. the game does not do anything else and the noises go on and on until i shut off the system or remove the disc.
Any help is greatly appreciated. It was my x-mas gift to my sis that i was hoping would work. I was annoyed, just like many others out there who have this problem.

i had trouble with GHWT on my (slim) PS2, but it just wouldn’t load at all, at all — not even a DRE, just locked up the system, including the power button (wouldn’t turn off until i opened the top). i had no trouble with any other game or disc at the time
anyway, it turns out that GHWT is a dual-layer disc, and a LOT of older PS2s have trouble reading dual-layer discs. Activision said this is a known problem. Sony offered to refurbish my PS2 for $45 (plus shipping both ways, and i’m in Alaska so that’d be expensive!)
figuring i had nothing to lose, i cleaned the little laser eye *very carefully* with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, then dried with another clean q-tip. long story short, my GHWT now loads first time, every time
