How do I position my fingers on the guitar neck?
i just started playing the electric guitar, love it, but, when I am playing two strings right next to each other, my fingers mute out one of the strings.
Also, I do have trouble deciding which way to position my playing hand(the one that plays the notes), so it would be somewhat comfortable. Any pointers for me please let me know.
It sounds like your fingers are getting lazy and laying over too much.
Think of your fingers as little ballerina dancers coming down directly onto the strings. Granted, there are times when your thumb should be resting over the top of the neck, but other times, your thumb should be on the back of the neck…particularly when playing high note lead guitar riffs up around the 10th-12th frets.
You may have to arch your hand a bit so your fingers are coming straight down onto the notes. Also, play as close to the fret as possible, but not directly on the fret.
Usually, your thumb should be over the top of the neck, with that little fleshy area between the thumb and 1st finger cradling the back of the neck.
