GIBSON GUITAR BRIDGE PARTS
Guitar building question Part 1?

Which will give be better tone/sustain on a solid body electric guitar, with mahogany back/maple top – Gibson style bridge/stop piece, top loaded hard-tail bridge or a through body loaded hard-tail bridge?

Through the body will give more sustain simply because the strings go thru the body, allowing the vibrations to run throughout. However, setting that bridge properly is very hard and very important. There is a certain distance that the bridge must sit from the neck and if it is not set right, you will never get your intonation to equal out. Also, you then have to drill the holes through the body and if it is wrong, you have big holes through the body then.

For ease of use, I would recommend the standard bridge or even a G&L Saddleblock bridge. You will get good sustain none the less and smaller holes if you mount it wrong.
