DUNLOP GUITAR SLIDES
Someone tell me what is a guitar slide?

I know I may sound like a loser, but I’m learning to play the electric guitar and I was wondering what exactly a guitar slide is and if it is something that I should get. Here is a link to what I am talking about: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Dunlop-Solid-Brass-Guitar-Slide-364058-i1130398.gc

Slide guitar is played by holding a hard smooth object such as a bottleneck against the guitar strings instead of pushing the strings down to the fretboard. Slide guitar allows smooth glissandos (slides) and unorthodox intonations. It is famously used in a number of songs by The Allman Brother’s, Leo Kottke etc. One of the most familiar examples of slide guitar is Lynyrd Skynnyrd’s “Freebird”. If you are presently new to guitar I would not recommend starting on slide until you have learned conventional guitar well enough to play in public: Slide guitar has many challenges particularly requiring the player to have a good ear.
