CUSTOM BASS GUITAR BODIES

CUSTOM BASS GUITAR BODIES
What is the process like/what supplies would I need to custom paint a friend’s bass guitar?

My friend has an old bass that he doesn’t use much and would like me to do some artwork on the body of – he will be paying me for supplies and labor.

My problem is that, while I can make pretty pictures just fine, I have never worked on a guitar body before. I am wondering what kind of paint I will need or whether I will have to use an airbrush, if I will have to strip or sand any of the current finish off (just where I am adding color, or the whole thing?), and what I would use to add a seal/top coat when I’m done.

Basically, I have no clue what I’m doing, but I’m willing to learn and put in the effort in order to do a good job. I don’t wanna ruin my friend’s bass. If anyone could give me some info, that would be great…or just tell me if this is a suicide mission and I shouldn’t even bother trying because I will inevitably mess up his expensive goods. Thanks!

I know there can be damage done to the sound of the instrument if it is not done properly. I would really do more research on how to complete this project. Here are a few sites that I found interesting and might help you to do it in the way you wold like it to turn out. GREAT….

The first cost 37.00 and here is the site addy:

The second is pretty detailed and has more information than you will need, but it may help you too.
