BOSS GUITAR EFFECTS
Any tips to cool sounds on the Boss GT-6 Guitar effects processor?
Pretty much looking for cool presets or anything cool to make up that sounds good per genre.
I have a GT-3, and I love it.
For me, it’s all about learning how to use the expression pedal and have it interact with the settings.
For instance, with the expression pedal all the way forward you could have it on a normal tone… let’s say a slightly overdriven tone. As you roll the pedal back, you could have it add a bit of echo, as it rolls further back it can add some phasing and deepen the echo with a bit of ‘verb, and all the way back could completely kill the echo, keep the verb, and do a solo boost.
The idea is that you can get a lot of texture in a dynamic fashion.
I also like the fact that you can put the fx in any order you want… so you could put an echo before a stompbox, limit it, then feed that into a preamp, as one way of generating sustained notes in an unconventional way, for instance.
The expression pedal can be used in all kinds of ways – as a way to change the limit threshold, gain, depth/number of delays… and that’s not even getting into the other types of variables, the internal ones that I still don’t know much about.
A lot of it for me has come down to just screwing around with it for a few hours to try and figure out how the different fx interact with each other. The GT-6 has a pickup simulator in it, right? Well, you can put that after the amp model, for instance.
I love the clean effects the GT-3 has, but I’m not really wild about its’ high-gain settings. My preference is to use a separate pedal for my distorted sounds, either a Boss Metal Zone or Metal Core, depending on the type of sound I prefer.
I use the GT-3 at this point as a subtle preamp… I use one of the low-gain amp settings on the middle gain setting, basically to add a bit of sparkle and dynamics to the tone. Between that and some EQ to help balance the tone out … that’s about it. I can add clean effects if and when I want (although admittedly I haven’t really been doing much of that lately, I’ve been running pretty much straight clean and dirty).
