Learning how to play the guitar?
I’m learning how to play the guitar and bass guitar but there aren’t any teachers around so I’m going to have to learn by book. So do any of you know any real good stores or websites that I could buy books that can help me? Also could you recommend some books maybe even DVDs, thanks!

Absolutely!……You are in luck, because these days there are MANY “Teach Yourself” easily understood books complete with CD. (And DVDs…both guitar and bass) I suggest the Mel Bay website and suggest the “Teach Yourself Guitar” book. (what else, eh?) Another thing I suggest is every few months, you get with an instructor SOMEWHERE and make sure you haven’t picked up any bad habits, then back to the books…the series is graduated and can take you a LONG way into proficiency on the instrument. Enjoy!! Regarding buying a guitar: much depends on how much you want to spend…….do NOT get a real cheapy…it won’t last long and will be difficult to play…..some of the Japanese made guitars are not bad and are reasonably priced….Ibanez is a good brand……Taylor….Ovation…….it would help if you had someone who played go with you….you really can’t count on the salesmen too much…you know what THEY’re interested in…….be prepared to pay at least 100-200 dollars for a half way decent instrument….but they are easy to resell..which brings up another point…sometimes USED guitars are VERY good if you’re lucky enough to find one….try some pawn shops or classified ads in newspapers.
